Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Compassion and Love
The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Performance and Potential
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the evening's event.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
A Sisterly Duo
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
